REICHERT MAKES RECORD RUN TO EARN TOP QUALIFYING PLACE AT NATIONAL TRAIL
RACEWAY'S LUCAS OIL SERIES RACE

            HEBRON, Ohio - In the final rounds of qualifying at the NHRA
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at National Trail Raceway, Bill Reichert
led the Top Alcohol Dragster contingent and Mick Snyder set the pace in Top
Alcohol Funny Car.  There were 19 dragsters and 10 funny cars vying for the
eight qualifying spots in each class.  In Top Sportsman, Delaware, Ohio's
Troy Coughlin remained in the No. 1 qualifying spot.  

            Reichert, the defending class champion in the division, jumped
from the 16th qualifying position, where he languished after Friday's
session, to take the top spot away from Ray Hack of Valparaiso, Ind.  In
Saturday's first run, Reichert, an Owosso, Mich., resident, made the move to
the No. 1 place with a 5.338-second, 264.39 mph pass.  In his final
qualifying effort, Reichert improved again running 5.312 seconds at 266.27
mph, setting the track elapsed time record in the bargain.  The eighth-place
qualifier, Ken Perry of Gormley, Ohio, ran 5.491 seconds at 255.24 mph,
making this the quickest eight-car qualifying field in NHRA North Central
Division history.

            Demotte, Ind., racer Snyder also took over the No. 1 qualifying
position after his first run on Saturday with a 5.757-second, 247.25 mph
run.  In the final session the reigning division champ went quicker still,
finishing the day with a 5.738-second, 247.25 mph run to remain No. 1.
Friday's best qualifier, Chuck Cheeseman of Galena, Ohio, did not improve on
his run and finished in the third qualifying spot.

            In Comp Eliminator, Bo Butner of Jeffersonville, Ind., is the
No. 1 qualifier as is Super Stock competitor Thomas Plant of Rosedale, Ind.
In Stock Eliminator, Jerry Bennett of Hickory, Ky., is the best qualifier.

            Running in conjunction with this weekend's final NHRA North
Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event were the last rounds of
eliminations for the division's last event, which rained out at Beech Bend
Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky.  In final-round results, Jeff Bohr, Plymouth,
Mich., won in Top Alcohol Dragster; Snyder beat Cheeseman in Top Alcohol
Funny Car.  Winners in other classes were Jeff Taylor, Lumberton, N.C., in
Comp Eliminator; Steve Graham, Fulton, Ind., in Super Stock; Tom Rambo,
Washington C.H., Ohio, in Stock Eliminator; Bill Yates Sr., Johnston, Ohio,
in Super Comp; Tony Fuller, Rogers, Ark., in Super Gas; Roger Dame II,
Nortonville, Ky., in Super Street; and Jerry Barker, Fort Valley, Ga., in
Top Sportsman.

Racing continues Sunday at National Trail Raceway at 9 a.m.  Top Alcohol
Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.  Tickets,
including pit pass, are $15.  Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 and kids 5
and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

            National Trail Raceway is approximately 20 miles east of
Columbus on old U.S. Highway 40, one mile north of Interstate 70 at the
Kirkersville exit. From Columbus, take I-70 to Highway 158 North and follow
