Four new racers heading to California after North Central Summit Series
wins
INDIANAPOLIS - After three days of head-to-head racing action that
pitted the top Summit E.T. racers from 20 NHRA North Central Division
tracks against one another in four racing categories, four lucky drivers
prevailed today, earning the right to represent their home track and
division at the Summit Racing Series National Finals at Pomona Raceway
in Pomona, California. This year the North Central Division
representatives that are westward bound are Rusty Dobbs, Bryan Fox,
David Gamber and Chad Beery.
Once in California, Dobbs, Fox, Gamber, and Beery will compete
against drivers from each of NHRA's other six geographical divisions for
a national championship at the Summit Racing Series National Finals,
held in conjunction with the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA
Finals, taking place November 3-6.
Earning a win for host track Indianapolis Raceway Park was Super Pro
racer, Dobbs, of Indianapolis. In the final, Dobbs took out Ray Boyer
III of Logansport, Ind., who was racing for Bunker Hill Dragstrip.
In Pro, it was fellow Ohio racers, Fox of Springfield and Wayne Adams of
Hamilton, battling it out. In the final, the win went to Fox,
representing Kil-Kare Dragway, over Adams, a runner for Edgewater Sports
Park.
In Sportsman, Gamber of Fenton, Mo., earned a win for
Gateway Int'l Raceway when he took out Mid-Michigan Motorplex runner
James Edlin Sr. of Belding, Mich.
In Motorcycle, Coles County Dragway runner, Beery of
Decatur, Ill., won over Morningview, Ky., racer Joe Deck from Edgewater
Sports Park.

Ill., based team from Gateway Int'l Raceway. Over the course of the
day, Gateway earned a total of 55 points. Finishing second was home
team, Indianapolis Raceway Park, with 51 points. The third place title
went to Pacemakers Dragway Park, who earned 50 points.
Another key component of the North Central Division Summit Racing Series
finals is the youth team championship, which is based on points earned
by competitors in High School and Jr. Drag Racing League competition.
This year that title was earned by the Joliet, Ill., team from Route 66
Raceway. Gateway Int'l Raceway was second, while the home team,
Indianapolis Raceway Park, finished third.
