NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series -- FINAL results from Tri-State Raceway
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES - West Central Division Tri-State Raceway Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 Putz repeats in TAD, Chaffee surprises in TAFC at Tri-State Raceway NHRA Lucas Series finale EARLVILLE, Iowa - Earlville's own Richard Putz wrapped up the NHRA West Central Division season for 2005 with a Top Alcohol Dragster victory at Tri-State Raceway, defeating second-generation racer Todd Datweiler in the final, 5.52, 256.02 mph to 5.801, 240.12. He was joined in the winner's circle by Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Gage Chaffee from Big Lake, Minn. NHRA West Central Division points leaders Randy Meyer and Cy Chesterman each held their ground and will be the 2005 NHRA West Central Division Lucas Oil Series Champions in their respective categories. In Competition Eliminator action, Brian Browell, driving his swift D/Dragster came from outside the division to record the victory by turning back LaCross, Wis., racer Bill Riemenapp in the final. Both finalists in Super Stock were from the North Central Division as Fred Bartoli, of El Grove, Ill., defeated Gary Tompa, of Saginaw, Mich., for the trophy. Two racers from Minnesota met in the Super Comp final with Jeff Cheney of Cambridge beating Jim Laborde of Hibbing. The Sportsman Motorcycle title went to another Minnesota campaigner, as Brian Johnson rode his Suzuki to glory. This was the final NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing event for 2005 in the NHRA West Central Division.
