Condo Outlasts Thacker; Snyder stops Fritts

In Edgewater Lucas Oil Series Final Rounds

Cleves, Ohio - Noah Condo of Monticello, Ind., regained traction in
his Top Alcohol Dragster soon enough to post a 7.016-second win over low
qualifier Marty Thacker, of Robinson, Ill., in the final at the NHRA
North Central Division's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Edgewater
Sports Park Sunday. It was Condo's first every trip to a final and it
looked like a lost cause when he lost traction right off the starting
line. But Thacker had engine trouble and began slowing. Condo noticed
Thacker's plight and hit the throttle again, screaming past Thacker near
the finish line for a thrilling victory.

Moments earlier, Mick Snyder, of Demotte, Ind., took his first win
of 2005 in Top Alcohol Funny Car with a win over Kim Fritts of Greenup,
Ill. Snyder hit 5.957 seconds at 245.29 mph to beat Fritts' 6.002
effort at 233.88 mph.

Snyder came in as the defending TAFC champion at Edgewater. He is
also the defending North Central Division champion and, despite this
being his first win of the season, he is the 2005 points leader.

In other action, Peoria, Ill.'s Brian Stufflebeam drove his B/AA
roadster to a win in Comp Eliminator by beating Greg Kaamplain's C/Econo
Dragster. Marion Stephenson, of West Lebanon, Ind., won the Super Stock
honors.

More than 550 drivers and their crews were on hand, attempting to
improve their position in NHRA North Central and national Lucas Oil
Series points standings. There was $135,000 up for grabs this weekend
and a $561,000 post-season bonus fund from Lucas.

The Edgewater Lucas Series event, dubbed Summer Thunder, was part
of one of the most active weekends in the history of NHRA's Lucas Oil
Drag Racing Series, as seven rain-delayed and regularly scheduled events
were held all across the country. The changes in the national and
divisional point standings potentially could be dramatic.

The next stop for the NHRA North Central Division Lucas Oil Drag
Racing Series will be Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky., Aug.
26-28.
