MEYER, MOATS LEAD QUALIFYING AT NEBRASKA MOTORPLEX'S LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING
SERIES EVENT

            SCRIBNER, Neb. - In the final rounds of qualifying at Nebraska
Motorplex's Miller Lite Summer Sizzle, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag
Racing Series, Randy Myer is the No. 1 qualifier in Top Alcohol Dragster
(TAD) and Vern Moats is the best qualifier in Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC).
Omaha's Curtis Spracklin headed-up qualifying in the Sportsman Motorcycle
class with a perfect 0.00-second reaction time.

            Myer of Spring Hill, Kan., is the division's reigning TAD
champion.  His 5.376-second, 262.16 mph pass was a tenth quicker than second
place qualifier Richard Putz of Earlville, Iowa.  In his first qualifying
effort, Meyer made a 5.721-second pass that put him in the fifth spot.  In
the next session, he jumped to No. 2 with a 5.556-second pass and made his
move to No. 1 in the final qualifying session.

            Moats, a 15-time division TAFC champ, ran 5.873 seconds at
249.65 mph in the opening qualifying session and the veteran driver from Des
Moines, Iowa, was able to hold onto the No. 1 spot.  The second-place
qualifier, Shawn Jones of Albuquerque, N.M., is just behind Moats with a
5.881-second pass at 243.70 mph.

            Spracklin, one of the many local favorites in competition this
weekend, moved up from the No. 2 qualifying slot he occupied on Friday to
lead the Sportsman Motorcycle class.  Clint Sallee of Glendive, Mont.,
remained No. 1 in Comp Eliminator as did Larry Schmidt, Grand Island, Neb.,
in Super Stock and Terry Lacy, McPherson, Kan., in Stock Eliminator.

Racing continues with eliminations Sunday at 8 a.m.  Gates open at 7 a.m.
Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car run first round of
eliminations at noon.  Tickets are $20 and kids 12 and under are admitted
