WELLS, MANZO SCORE WINS AT ROUTE 66 RACEWAY'S LUCAS OIL SERIES RACE

            JOLIET, Ill. - At the Chicagoland Dodge Dealers NHRA Division 3
Race, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, David Wells took the
win in Top Alcohol Dragster and Frank Manzo won in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
The weekend's event was the third of six in NHRA North Central Division
Competition.

            Lamars, Iowa, resident Wells was the No. 8 qualifier this
weekend, and had to face the event's top qualifier, Steve Torrence of
Kilgore, Texas, in the first round on his way to the final where he beat Ken
Perry of Gormley, Ont., Canada.  Wells ran 5.495 seconds at 258.76 mph to
knock off Perry who made a 5.651-second, 244.12 mph pass.

            Manzo, a former Top Alcohol Funny Car divisional and national
champ, earned his first divisional win of the year.  The Morganville, N.J.,
racer bested the defending North Central Division champion Mick Snyder of
Demotte, Ind.  Manzo's 5.757-second, 255.00 mph pass was enough to give him
the edge over Snyder's 5.786-second, 250.60 mph effort.  This was Snyder's
first final-round appearance of the year.

            In Comp Eliminator, Jeff Taylor, Lumberton, N.C., took the win
and was joined in the winner's circle by Super Stocker Steve Graham, Fulton,
Ind.; Jim Harrison of Albion, Ill., in Stock Eliminator; Delaware, Ohio's
Mike Coughlin in Super Comp; Mark Hackett of Quincy, Ill., in Super Gas;
Liberty, Mo., racer Jeffrey Elting in Super Street; and Keith McPherson,
Leonard, Mich., in Top Sportsman. 

            North Central Division racers head to Edgewater Sports Park in
Cleves, Ohio, for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, August
5-7.
