FIELDS SET AT ROUTE 66 RACEWAY, TORRENCE, SNYDER LEAD QUALIFYING

            JOLIET, Ill. - More than 520 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
competitors completed qualifying and time trials at the Chicagoland Dodge
Dealers NHRA Division 3 Race.  Steve Torrence was atop the Top Alcohol
Dragster qualifiers and Mick Snyder led the pack in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

            Torrence, a rookie Top Alcohol Dragster driver from Kilgore,
Texas, set the pace with a 5.394-second, 257.43 mph run.  There were a total
of 23 dragsters vying for the eight-car field that will run eliminations
Sunday.  Torrence has competed in four events this year, including an NHRA
national event, and has three wins and a runner-up finish to his credit.

            Snyder, the division's reining Top Alcohol Funny Car champ,
jumped from the No. 5 qualifying slot to the top spot today.  The Demotte,
Ind., racer made a 5.744-second, 249.90 mph run to take the lead.  There
were 16 Top Alcohol Funny Cars trying to may the eight car field.

            Comp Eliminator driver Bob Book of Frankfort, Ill., remained in
the No. 1 qualifying position as did John Coughlin of Delaware, Ohio, in
Super Stock and Top Sportsman racer Ryan Hargett of Evansville, Ind.  In
Stock Eliminator, Patrick Downing, Britton, Mich., took over the No. 1 spot.

Racing continues Sunday morning at 8.  Gates open at 7 a.m.  Top Alcohol
Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car run first round of eliminations at 1 p.m.
