Snow and Jones big winners at Red River Raceway

GILLIAM, La. - More than 400 drivers began their weekend at Red River
Raceway as championship contenders, but after three days of head-to-head
action at the inaugural NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Championships
presented by ABC Auto Parts less than a dozen remained, earning wins in
their respective category. 

Starting from the No. 3 qualifying position, racing legend Gene Snow of
Fort Worth, Texas earned the win in Top Alcohol Dragster over Steve
Torrence in the Kilgore, Texas racer's Top Alcohol racing debut. En
route to his final round victory, Snow eliminated Darrell Hitchman and
Brandon Pierce before then meeting up with Torrance in the final. In the
final round, Snow laid down a 5.705 second pass at 239.78 mph to take
out Torrance, who ran a 5.718 second pass at 244.12 mph. This is the
first win this season for Snow, who was a non qualifier at the South
Central division opener in Houston. 

In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Texas Motorplex winner Jimmy Jones earned his
second win in a row this year when he took out Corpus Christi, Texas
runner Steve Burck. In the final, Jones ran 5.889 seconds 242.89 mph to
take the win over Burck, who ran 6.073 seconds at 236.71 mph. As a
result of his victory, Jones now lead Top Alcohol Funny Car points
within NHRA's South Central division over former division champ Tate
Branch.   

Other winners at this weekend's event were Bill Devine of Allen, Texas,
in Competition Eliminator; Jerry Emmons of Pasadena, Texas, in Super
Stock Bill McClister of Shoreacres, Texas in Stock Eliminator; Austin
Albritton of West Monroe, La., in Super Comp; Jesse Serna of El Paso,
Texas, in Super Gas and Jeff Richardson of Dallas, in Super Street.
Taking the wins in Sportsman Motorcycle, Sunset Racing Engines Top
Sportsman and TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster competition were Billy Pannell
of Doyline, La., Kyle Cannon of West Helena, Ark., and Rocky Mc Cain of
Fort Worth, Texas. 

The next stop for racers on the NHRA South Central Division tour is
Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, Tenn., June 2-3. Additional
