Still Plenty of Yellow and Black
The Coughlin family and their JEG'S Mail Order sponsored vehicles started
race weekend with the opportunity to post wins in three separate NHRA
competition classes. The dust has cleared after a few rounds of elimination for the
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.
Troy Coughlin was defeated in a double breakout race in the opening round of
Super Gas. This was the first Super Gas race Troy has competed at in over a
year.
"It's always harder when your day ends at your home track,"' said Troy.
"It's part of racing and Super Gas is extremely competitive. We still have
plenty of yellow and black that can visit the winner's circle."
John won his third round match up and will be among a select few that will
compete for a win on Sunday. The oldest of the four Coughlin brother's has
scored three of his five NHRA national event carrier victory's at National
Trail ('93 Super Gas, '99 Pro Stock Truck & '03 Super Stock).
"You always want to be racing on Sunday in front of the home town crowd,"
explained John. "It's a goal I have every year we race at National Trail
Raceway and I have been fortunate enough to be the last person standing three
times."
Mike is also no stranger to the winner's circle at National Trail Raceway.
He chalked up back-to-back Super Comp wins in 2002 & 2003. The Super Comp
class sat out last year at the event, so Mike was determined to defend the
title from the last two years the class had been contested at the event. He was
defeated in the third round in a close side-by-side race.
"We won 16 of the last 17 rounds of competition at this event in Super
Comp," stated Mike. "To say we were on a role is probably an under statement at
this track, we even won the last event our team went to. We felt good as a
team going into this event."
The Coughlin family will put their stock into John (Super Comp) and Jeg (Pro
Stock) to bring home a victory for the yellow and black.
