MOPAR'S CRAWFORD READY TO RALLY AT ATCO
May 12, 2005
Center Line, Mich. - Atco Raceway has been good to Mopar NHRA Sport Compact
ace Mike Crawford, and he and the Darrell Cox Racing team are hoping that their
return to the facility this weekend will be no different. Already with three
career series victories under his belt Crawford will be gunning for his fourth
in New Jersey at the Northeast NHRA Sport Compact Nationals.
"We've been testing quite a bit over the time that we've had off," Crawford
said. "This time has really helped us to figure out this new car, and we are
confident that we've made the changes we need in order to be very competitive
this weekend at Atco. We're most definitely going to be in contention to get our
fourth win."
Crawford put the NHRA Sport Compact scene on notice in his 2004 appearance at
Atco Raceway, as the veteran decisively claimed the top qualifier position.
His final qualifying run of 8.311 seconds/ 181.06 mph also set the track's ET
and Speed Records in the Hot Rod division. He enters this weekend's event in
second place in the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series Hot Rod Division
points championship.
While Crawford is confident that the team will be in the hunt for the title,
he's quick to point out the level of competitiveness in the series' this
season.
"It takes a lot of consistency to be competitive in this series," Crawford
said. "We've made improvements at each event, and that's important. Each track
requires a different setup, and it's a matter of figuring those setups out for
each event. All of these factors determine a team's competitiveness, and we're
pleased with our progress this season."
