NHRA Kurt Johnson Friday Update: Kurt Johnson Sits Sixth on
Friday in Houston
Event: 18th Annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals
Day/Date: Friday, April 8, 2005
Location: Houston Raceway Park, Baytown, TX
Kurt Johnson opened his qualifying effort at the O'Reilly Spring
Nationals in Baytown, TX in fine fashion. After opening with a
class-leading 6.733-second, 205.13 mph pass on his first attempt, KJ
came back in the evening session to improve to a time of 6.726 seconds,
slotting the ACDelco Cavalier in the sixth position midway through
qualifying.
"We had a good run this afternoon, even though the clutch setting was a
little soft. Naturally, we made some adjustments for the conditions and
came back tonight looking to keep our ACDelco Cavalier at the top of the
page.
"Unfortunately, we had some sort of a problem that caused the car to bog
right at the start, almost as if it had no power. When I got to the end
of the track, I figured it had run a 6.76 or .77, so I was pleasantly
surprised to see it ran that 6.72. However, even though we improved, we
know the potential was there to do even better, so we'll work on it
tonight to find and fix whatever is wrong, and get after it tomorrow."
