Tony Pedregon Vaults Into Sixth Slot
Quaker State Racing Adapting Well to Changing Conditions
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 30, 2005) Tony Pedregon and the Quaker State Racing Monte
Carlo Nitro Funny Car jumped into the sixth position for tomorrowıs AC Delco
Las Vegas NHRA Nationals.
Pedregon drove to a 4.775-second elapsed time at 320.58 mph during tonightıs
fourth and final qualifying session. It was the teamıs best run of the
weekend and sets up a first round match up with Johnny Gray.
³The car really responded to the changes we made,² said Pedregon, who is
also carrying Carlos Santana colors this weekend. ³If the conditions are hot
or cold, good or bad, we know we can get down the track. We know weıre going
to have to work for it tomorrow because this is a tight field, but this team
is more than capable.
³Itıs tough to run that well and wind up sixth,² Pedregon added. ³But we
know weıre only a click away from getting to that promise land.²
The California resident is really pleased with how the team has jelled.
³It just comes with experience,² Pedregon said. ³You just continue to work
hard and continue to learn. You like to do things in the shortest amount of
time possible. We have great people who work on this team and they are the
ones who make this happen. And we canıt say enough for Quaker State and all
of our great sponsors.²
Quaker State Racing Notebook:
ADAPTING WELL: Tony Pedregon, driver of the Quaker State Racing Monte Carlo
Nitro Funny Car, talked about how well the crew has reacted to the new rules
for this race. When the team last competed at the The Strip at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway, the cars were running under the 90-percent nitromethane
rules.
³This biggest challenges we have had is been to adapt to the new 85 percent
rule,² Pedregon said. ³We did have some data, but this weekend weıve had to
get some more useful data. We did that in that final run, and it was just a
matter of adapting. It takes a quite a bit to generate the same amount of
power with these rules.²
