"It knocked the tow out real bad, and I just couldn't turn it. It was
just a disappointing day for the ALLTEL Dodge. We had a fast car. We got
back on the last pit stop, but we had a car that would have won. We were
catching the 48. He was loose and we were a little bit tight. We were
getting better as it went. It was just a typical night at Lowe's Motor
Speedway. Kasey was really good tonight, too. All we can do is try our
best in these next five races and see where we end up. We've had a lot
of stupid stuff happen to us."

 

CASEY MEARS (No. 41 Target Dodge)

"We had a good car. It got real loose, and I felt something pop in the
right rear. I thought I had a tire going down. I came in and put on a
new set of tires. We ran decent, but we were still a little out of
control. There at the end we weren't too bad. I don't know if I was a
little bit gun shy because we had a tire going down last week. I hope
they find something wrong with the car. If they don't, I might have made
a mistake. At the end, our only shot to get back for a Lucky Dog, I
don't know what Robby Gordon was thinking at all. I was second in line
to get up front, and he just decided he deserved to be there more than I
did. He just KO'd the left side of my car. He stood on the gas and just
ran right into the side of the car. We put ourselves in that position to
begin with, so I guess you can't be too upset." DID YOU TALK TO GORDON
AFTER THE RACE? "Yes." DID YOU WORK THINGS OUT? "Absolutely not. I guess
he just thought he needed it a lot more than I did."

 

JAMIE McMURRAY (No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge)

NOTE: McMurray scored his eighth top-10 finish in the last nine races
and retained 11th place in the series standings.

 

"We had to unload a backup car and only got about 30 minutes of practice
in it. We didn't have a lot of time in it, but it ran really well. We
kept adjusting on it all night, and we never did get it exactly right.
We fought time and fought loose and fought grip. I would be
disappointed, but for a backup car I'm pretty happy. It's cool getting
all these top 10 finishes. I can finish fourth to ninth. Those guys did
a lot of work on this car the last couple of days, so that's somewhat
rewarding."

 

STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge)

"We had a lot of close calls tonight and managed to slip through 'em. We
managed to stay on the lead lap and got a decent finish out of it. I
think the car was a lot better than a 12th-place car, but we'll take it
and get ready for next week at Martinsville."

 

JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge)

"I guess it just wasn't supposed to be our night. We got caught in the
pits when the yellow came out, and then we slipped in some oil. What are
you going to do? We had a good car. If everything had gone right we'd be
out there right now running for the win with Kasey. His car was really
strong, and he ran a good race. It looked like he was going to get his
first win tonight."

 

KASEY KAHNE (No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge)

"That was the best car I've had in my life. I don't know what happened.
The front end fell down and we had a bad vibration before that. Our
Dodge Dealers car was really fast. It was an awesome racecar. We got a
vibration and something broke before we were going to pit. The front end
just fell down and went into the wall. I really don't know what
happened. I don't know what happened last night either. It just broke
and went straight to the wall. This is a fast car every time we've run
it. We just haven't been able to finish it off and win a race. I don't
know if we'll be able to race it after that. It's really disappointing.
I was super focused on the race, not really even thinking about winning.
The car was still really fast. I don't know what happened. As good as we
run on and off we definitely deserve to win sometime. Hopefully it'll be
before the year is out, if not, maybe next year. We had an awesome
racecar. It was fun to drive it until that happened. Sometimes you get
(upset), and other times you don't know what to think. You just smile
and go on with your day and look forward to the next race."

 

RUSTY WALLACE (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge)

"He (Jeff Gordon) spun and when he spun he backed down across the
racetrack. I guess he couldn't help it. The spotter yelled go low. I
went low. I thought he was going to slide up the racetrack. Instead he
hooked and came flying back around the bottom and there was nowhere to
go. It's just too bad. It was flying. I loved the way it handled. It was
running perfect. This is just a crying shame right here. I knew last
night when I parked it (early) after Happy Hour that it was going to be
good."
