Tony Pedregon Grabs Second Qualifying Slot
Quaker State Racing Ready for Eliminations
ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 25, 2004) Tony Pedregon, for the fourth time this
season, placed the Quaker State Racing Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car into the
second-qualifying position for tomorrow¹s O¹Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals
at the Texas Motorplex.
Pedregon collected the second spot on the strength of a 4.810-second run at
318.02 mph set during Friday night¹s second session. He added two solid
passes today, setting up a first round match up with Phil Burkart, Jr.
³It¹s a real accomplishment with as competitive as these fields have
gotten,² Pedregon said. ³There sure were a lot of good cars behind us. We
took advantage of the good track conditions at night and we made some
progress today.
³We have to focus on being consistent tomorrow,² Pedregon added. ³We¹ll try
to raced the conditions because this is such a high-powered track. It has a
tendency, as you can see in the field, to be very close. There¹s on 15
hundredths of a second separating the entire field. I anticipate close
racing tomorrow. Quaker State really gives us an edge, but the rest is up to
us. If we can do our part, we will be all right.²
