Stremme Survives Bristol for Sixth-Place Finish
Bristol, TN (August 29, 2004) – David Stremme piloted the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge
safely through the caution filled Food City 250 race at Bristol Motor
Speedway (BMS) Friday night. Stremme, who was second fastest the final practice
session, protected his car like a veteran, narrowly avoiding several on track
incidents.
While on top of the speed chart in the first practice session Stremme spun
down the narrow BMS backstretch. Through a skillful combination of throttle
and brake Stremme kept his TRIMSPA X32 Dodge off the wall, despite turning
three full 360’s before coming to rest in turn two.
“Yeah she is a little loose,” Stremme radioed to his crew after coming to a
 stop.
After qualifying eleventh, David Stremme began to carefully climb through
the field. Stremme’s first close call came on lap 30, while running in ninth
position, he narrowly avoided the spinning cars of Greg Biffle and Martin
Truex. While running in 10th position on lap 49 Stremme again drove through a
wreck unharmed, this time avoiding Ron Hornaday and Tony Raines.
“You see how these things end up,” said spotter Lorin Ranier over the team
radio. “Take care of your car because most of the ones in front of you will
wreck out.”
After a four tire pit stop under caution on lap 75, Stremme went on to avoid
a spin involving Kenny Wallace on lap 118. During the second stop of the
day, on lap 167, the TRIMSPA pit crew maintained position sending Stremme out
seventh with roughly 83 laps to go. By lap 197 Stremme was solidly in the top
five where he remained before narrowly avoiding a spinning Hermie Sadler on
lap 237 in the closest call of the day. During the closing laps Stremme yielded
one position to post a sixth-place finish, raising him three spots to 12th
in Busch Series driver points.
“This was a great all around effort for the TRIMSPA Team,” said Stremme. “
We had solid stops, a good setup, and a smart race strategy. I think we found
the car to take to Dover next month.”
Stremme and Team TRIMSPA will be back in action for the Target House 300 at
California Speedway, on Saturday, September 4. The event will be televised
live at 3 p.m. eastern time on NBC and will broadcast nationally at that same
time on radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM
Satellite Radio Channel 144.
