Pre-Race Notes & Quotes
A Touch of Horsepower Is To Infineon¹s Taste
SONOMA, Calif. (July 28, 2004) One of the most picturesque scenes in drag
racing lies within the hills of Northern California¹s wine country.
Refurbished and resurfaced two years ago, Infineon Raceway could host
record-breaking performances for Tony Pedregon and the entire Quaker State
Racing Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car team.
Pedregon, himself a Californian from Chino Hills, always enjoys stops in
this area just north of San Francisco. Despite the relaxed surroundings, the
17th annual Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals promises to be an intense,
hard-fought race weekend for all the teams.
³It¹s such a great facility,² said Pedregon, the reigning NHRA POWERade Drag
Racing Series Funny Car champion. ³We¹re near sea level and it has such
beautiful surroundings. They have made some great upgrades to that
facility.²
While cabernets, merlots and chardonnays prevail off the track, the Quaker
State Monte Carlo will be ordering a finely tuned racing oil a 70 weight
in the signature green bottle best served hot with nitro methane fuel and
ET¹s in the 4.8¹s.
Extreme high-horsepower Nitro Funny Cars, like Quaker State¹s, seem to have
an advantage on this quarter mile track records will fall if conditions
are just right.
³That track has a tendency to be really quick and fast,² Pedregon said. ³I¹m
looking forward to it. Our car ran really well in Seattle, so we know it¹s
going to be fast this weekend. One of our goals is to not get behind in
qualifying. We would like to qualify in the top three or the top five. I
know this team is ready to go.²

Pedregon, the reigning NHRA Funny Car World Champion, has already racked up
three No. 1 qualifiers this season (Las Vegas, Atlanta & Route 66 Raceway in
Joliet, Ill.) and two, No. 2 qualifiers (Topeka, Kan., and Denver).
