Matt Pritiko takes first 2004 Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship
presented by Toronto Star Wheels Formula Senior win
SUTTON, ONTARIO – The headline class of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting
Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels added a name to the history
books on Sunday afternoon, when London racer, Matt Pritiko won the Formula
Senior final at 3S Go Karts in Sutton, Ontario, site of Round 4 of the
championship.
“It’s awesome,” Pritiko said of his first win. “It was close at the end
thought. Tyler was really on me – I held my ground and it was a good race.”
Pritiko laid down the ‘law’ of the weekend with a scorching 34.411 second
qualifying lap, which gave him the pole by 0.132 of a second. In the
pre-final, Pritiko made a good start and held on to go flag-to-flag. He won
by a 1.158 second margin.
For the 25-lap final, it would take another good start by Pritiko to have a
shot at taking the win. Pritiko got not a good start, but a great one that
got him the lead going into turn 1. From there Pritiko settled into a
rhythm and held on to the checkered flag. “That was tough – especially on
the ribs. Hopefully with this win I’ll move up in the points.”
John Pritiko, was also happy with his son’s first win. “I am really happy
for our whole team. We worked really, really hard all weekend and this is
the result. Mike [Roth] and Tyler [Givogue] did well, but this will tighten
the points up. Luke, and Enzo Chiovitti, along with Matt’s tuner Jason Papp
really helped us this weekend.”
To crown off the weekend, Pritiko was awarded the GM Racing award, which
goes to a driver judged to have displayed outstanding competition skills
and sportsmanship.
