RINGERS DRIVERS LEAD ALL NHRA PRO CLASSES
Anderson, Bazemore and Bernstein Atop of Points
Indianapolis – (June 9, 2004) As the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA)
heads into June, almost the halfway point of the season, Ringers Gloves would like
to recognize three of their drivers as they all sit atop of their respected
classes in NHRA.
What better word to describe Greg Anderson’s 2004 Pro Stock season to date
than stellar?
So far, Anderson has advanced to eight finals in nine races, recorded
seven wins on the season (23 career wins), claimed the $50,000 prize of the King
Demon Crown at Heartland Park (Kansas) and set the smallest margin of victory
in all of motorsports over Dave Connolly by 0.0001.
Anderson also has a dominating 312-point lead over fellow Ringers driver,
Kurt Johnson as they head into the 40th annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals in
Columbus this weekend.
Matco Tools Funny Car pilot Whit Bazemore has recently been seen fanning
off from a hot streak in the past three events.
In the last six races, Bazemore has advanced to five finals, not to
mention two wins in three events, with one at his home track of Atlanta Dragway and
the second at Heartland Park in Topeka.
Bazemore also set the quickest and fastest pass ever set by a Funny Car at
the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., May 22 with a 4.713/333.25 mph run.
Bazemore heads into his sponsor’s, Matco Tools, home state of Ohio this
weekend with a 76-point lead over Del Worsham.
The Top Fuel category got a new leader coming out of Topeka.
Brandon Bernstein has had no trouble getting back into the swing of things
after his season-ending injury in May 2003.
In 2004, Bernstein has picked up wins in Phoenix, Houston and Topeka. A
pretty good tout for his Top Fuel drag racing career only being 17 races old.
In Joliet, Bernstein came home runner-up in his final round, but set the
new national speed record in Top Fuel in semi-finals with a 333.41 mph run.
Bernstein and the Bud King crew head into the weekend with a slim, but
hopeful 20-point lead of Tony Schumacher.
Be sure to check out the Ringers “Glove Shack” on the Manufacturer’s
Midway at every NHRA national event in 2004.
