Street Car Drags at SSP on Thursday
One-On-One Street Car Drags at SSP on Thursday
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (May 23, 2004) – This Thursday night, June 3, the 410 Sprint
Cars will return to the Susquehanna Speedway Park taking a week off compete
with the World of Outlaws locally. SSP is proud to welcome back the “Outlaw
Killers,” Fred Rahmer, Lance Dewease, Greg Hodnett and Donnie Kreitz. Each of
these drivers have also won feature events at SSP this season, proving that
Sprint Car racing in Central PA is the “best in the world.” SSP showcases that
future of Sprint Car racing with young stars such as Jim Siegel, Eric
Stambaugh, Billy Dietrech and T.J. Stutts that are looking for their first SSP win of
the season this Thursday. The night will also feature the weekly excitement
of the popular Xtreme Enduro Stock Cars on the 1/2–mile Newberrytown oval.
Last week Columbia’s Tom Johns became the first repeat winner in the Xtreme
Enduro Stock Cars.
The Xtreme Enduro Stock Car Pepsi Challenge will feature Johns along with new
XSC points leader Michael Goodwin of Wellsville, Harrisburg’s Karl Windish,
newcomer Greg Miller from Hanover and Curtis Nichols from Aberdeen, MD. Johns,
Goodwin and Nichols picked up the “double money” purse when they finished in
the top five by coming from the back in last week’s feature. The return of
the Rock It Pizza School Bus Challenge will also continue as selected drivers
will take their turn at the big yellow bus on the highbanks of SSP.
The One-On-One Street Car Drags will feature a competition between street
legal cars and trucks right off the street. Races will be from a dead start with
two participants starting side-by-side. They will take one lap around the
track with the winner advancing to the next round and the loser eliminated from
the competition. The final race will see the two “survivors” in a
winner-take-all paying $250.00. Jason Goodling from York Haven has entered his 1990
Eagle Talon along with Lancaster’s Ken Johns in a 1985 Pontiac Station Wagon,
Wrightsville’s Joel Hoffmaster Jr in a 1985 Ford Thunderbird and Bruce Walbert
from Mechanicsburg in a 1996 Dodge Neon. Enter now because the number of
entries is limited. Entry forms for the June 3 One-on One Street Car Drags can be
found at www.sspracing.com under rules or contact the SSP office. Entries will
be taken at the pit gate on the day of the event.
Many activities for the kids and new traditions have also begun at SSP which
include all children 12 and under being able to visit victory lane after the
Sprint Car feature to have their picture as a group with the winning driver.
Gates open in the pit area at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at
5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30
p.m. Race fans can expect a fast paced 2 ½ hour program each and every night
(and as coined by a local reporter "Done by 10."). Grandstand ticket prices are
Adults (18 & older) $10.00; Teens (13-17) $6.00; Children (6-12) $2.00; and
Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices have been reduced to $20.00 with
a reduced price of $18.00 for all track license holders. A track license is
$25.00 for the year.
Also, with the huge amount of interest for the June 10 Great American School
Bus Race, SSP will be selling advance tickets at a discounted rate of $10.00
per ticket. At the gate, the general admission price will be $12.00. Ticket
may be purchased at intermission during Thursday night racing events or by
calling the SSP office at (717) 292-1696. There are also buses available for
purchase by contacting Todd Fisher at the SSP office.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles
NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. For more information, contact
the speedway offices at (717) 292-1696 or email toddafish@aol.com.
