NHRA:Archipelago/Motorola Driver Bryan Herta's Finishes Fifth in Final

FORT WORTH, Texas (October 12, 2003) - Archipelago/Motorola driver Bryan
Herta finished the 2003 Indy Racing League IndyCarTM Series season the way he started
it, with a fifth place finish at Texas Motor Speedway.  Today's top-five is his second at the
1.5-mile oval, where Herta made his IndyCar Series debut substituting for the injured
Dario Franchitti.
Herta was moving up through the field when an accident on lap 188 involving
drivers Kenny Brack and Tomas Scheckter caused irreparable damage to the catch fence
ending the event on lap 195, five laps earlier than scheduled.
Scott Dixon clinched the 2003 IndyCar Series championship by finishing second in
today's race.  Gil de Ferran won the final race of his IndyCar career and moved to second
in the final championship standings.  Herta's teammate Dan Wheldon clinched the
Bombardier rookie-of-the-year award with a career best finish of third in today's race.
Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan finished 14th today after contact between he and
Helio Castroneves cut his left rear tire and forced him to make an extra pit stop.  The
finish moved Kanaan to fourth in the final championship standings with 476 points.
Wheldon's best career finish moved him up to 11th in the standings with 312 points.
After starting only 11 of the 16 races, Herta finishes the year in 13th place with 277
championship points.

Bryan Herta, #27 Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"This is a good finish to round out the season for the Archipelago/Motorola team.
We had a great car today and unfortunately I kind of hurt us on the last pit stop by stalling
it.  We still had a chance to get to the front the way we were moving.  Right now I'm just
hoping that Kenny (Brack) is okay.  These #27 guys are an awesome team and I'm
privileged to have driven for them this year.  It is great for me to get back in an open
wheel car and run up front again."

Kyle Moyer, Team Manager, Archipelago/Motorola
"Today was another good race for Bryan.  He kept his nose clean out there and
even when we had a couple of hiccups he fought back.  We had a shot to win it at the end
and that is what Bryan has done for us all year, given us a shot to win."
