Warren Johnson Will Start Ninth at the Mile-High Nationals
Event: 24th annual Mile High Nationals
Location: Bandimere Speedway
Morrison, CO
Day/Date: Saturday July 19, 2003
On the strength of a 7.265 second, 190.82 mph pass made on his second attempt on Friday evening, Warren Johnson qualified his GM Performance Parts Grand Am ninth for Sunday's final eliminations of the Mile-High Nationals in Denver, CO.
As Saturday's conditions prevented any major changes in the line-up, the Pro Stock contingent used their two attempts to fine-tune their set-ups for Bandimere Speedway. Despite posting the seventh quickest time in the morning session, Johnson continued to search for ways to better his performance for race day, efforts that were hindered by a mechanical problem on his final attempt.
"We've been fighting to hit the set-up on our GM Performance Parts Grand Am all weekend. We had run well in testing here a few weeks ago, and the conditions this weekend are quite similar. However, despite not having made any changes since then, we're just not getting off the starting line as well as we were a few weeks ago.
"On top of that, we lost a run tonight when a water fitting was left off, and that is information we certainly could have used. We'll spend the time between now and tomorrow's first round going over our car and our notes to find the solution. We have our work cut out for us, but we're up to it."
