Kimmel wins pole, ARCA RE/MAX starting grid, Kansas Speedway

Kimmel earns 30th career Old Milwaukee Pole at Kansas

 

KANSAS CITY KS (5-31-03)  Four-time ARCA RE/MAX champion and current point leader Frank Kimmel earned his 30th career Old Milwaukee Pole here Saturday at Kansas Speedway. Kimmel, in Larry Clement's Advance Auto Parts-Pork Ford, blistered the 1.5-mile superspeedway with a top speed of 165.325 mph, more than 2 mph quicker than outside polesitter Shelby Howard who timed in at 163.098 mph.

 

"We have a lot of confidence when we come to Kansas," said Kimmel. "The team's confidence is always high here. We have really good setups and our car has been great the past couple of weeks. If we can make our race setup as effective as our qualifying setup, we should be fine in the race."

 

It was Kimmel's second consecutive pole at Kansas Speedway and 14th on a superspeedway. Kimmel trails only Iggy Katona (43 career poles) and Marvin Smith and Tim Steele who are tied for second in career poles with 31 each.

 

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series veteran Rick Carelli was 3rd quickest at 162.758 mph with 2001 Kansas winner Jason Jarrett and former NASCAR All-Pro champion Wayne Anderson rounding out the top 5 respectively.
