Fogleman wins at Holland International Speedway


Holland, NY (May 25, 2002) - Jay Fogleman outlasted a hard-charging Eric Corbett on a late restart to win the Naturally Fresh Foods 250 presented by Sunoco Saturday night at Holland Speedway. Fogleman became the first driver to win multiple events in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series this season. The previous eight races this season produced eight different winners for the first time in the history of the short track series.

Joel Kauffman finished third and won the Miller Lite Rookie of the Race honors. Brian Ross finished fourth and Danny Sammons completed the top five.

"We had a great car all night and it was good to get this win for my dad (Kent Fogleman) who has been in the hospital this past week," said Fogleman. "Last year we only won one race and we have already beaten that this year. Hopefully we can get some more wins and be there for the championship series."

Brian Ross started from the Advance Auto Parts pole and led the first 65 laps before Fogleman passed for the lead on lap 66. Fogleman led at halfway and won the Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader Award. Kauffman moved into the lead on lap 137 and appeared to be on the way to his first career win in the Series in just his fourth start until he broke a shock with about 50 laps to go in the race.


The race was slowed 10 times by caution for 56 laps with the third caution of the race causing the biggest problems for competitors. Hal Goodson and Danny Sammons made contact going into turn three on lap 38. Also collected in the incident were Eric Corbett, Jason McLellan and Robbie Thompson.

The win was the eighth career win for the veteran driver in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. Ross and Corbett are now tied for the lead in the Northern Division pts. The win moves Fogleman into third with Joel Kauffman and Jeff Agnew completing the top-five.
