CALLAWAY, JONES VICTORIOUS IN LUCAS OIL SERIES
 
 
    BATON ROUGE, La. - Lee Callaway and Jimmy Jones combined good racing with some old fashion luck to take home wins at State Capitol Dragway as the NHRA South Central Division kicked off the second half of its Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series this weekend.
    Callaway knocked off Carl Magee in round one of Top Alcohol Dragster with a pass of 5.646 seconds before recording a 5.757 second run against Shelly Howard who left early (red lighted) handing Callaway the win in round two. Callaway then meet up with number one qualifier Gene Snow and recorded his best run of the day at 5.564 seconds, 253.23 mph to Snow's 5.647, 251.53 for the win.
    Local Top Alcohol Dragster driver Erica Creduer suffered mechanical problems in round one loosing to Darryl Hitchman.
    Jones faced off with defending Top Alcohol Funny Car Division Champion Tate Branch in the final round and took the win with a 6.098 second run at 234.37 mph to Branch's 6.124 at 236.15 mph. Jones had luck on his side today when Todd Simpson and Kebin Kinsley were both no shows in round one and two respectively. Simpson suffered car problems during Saturday's final qualifying, while Kinsley had irreparable damage in his first round win over Ron Morrison.
    Jones and Callaway's wins mark the fourth different winner in each class this year in the NHRA South Central Division Lucas Oil Series.
    The South Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series makes its next stop in Belle rose, La., September 12-14, 2003.
