SCOTTY CANNON QUALIFIES NO. 11

SCOTTY CANNON, OAKLEY FUNNY CAR, qualified No. 11 today. His first
qualifying pass today was the clincher, where he posted a 4.880-second lap
at 312.13 mph. In tonight's final qualifying session, he was on another good
run, but the car veered to the right at the top end, slowing the pass to a
4.914/291.01.

"It was on a low .80 run, but we don't know what happened. We'd have been
happier with a quicker run tonight, but we're OK."
