AFTER TWO OF FOUR QUALIFYING SESSIONS:

GARY SCELZI, OAKLEY TIME BOMB DODGE STRATUS R/T FUNNY CAR, posted two strong
runs today, a 4.869/320.43 in today's first session, and a 4.871/318.24 in
the second, placing him No. 6 in the field. Scelzi and the team are pleased
with these results considering the problems the team had the last two races
getting down the track. It was also to everyone's relief that these two
sessions even took place under warm, dry conditions after rain had been
threatened all day.

"Favorite word: consistency. I went down the track two times in a row, which
didn't used to be a big deal for us. As of late, it's been a problem. Right
down the middle of the race track, right in the groove. We tried to stand on
it a little bit for tonight, but the track was actually better than our
clutch was, which made the clutch slip further and it slowed us down just a
little bit. But that's fine. Tonight's kind of dreamland, and we're not sure
where we're at yet, with the new clutch and the new supercharger. We are
running the new stuff. It made two consistent runs, so we're very, very
happy."
