Tony Stewart's NASCAR Winston Cup Championship Extends Moog(R) Chassis Parts Winning Streak to 37 Years
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 20, 2002; With his title-clinching performance in Sunday's NASCAR Ford 400 in Homestead, Fla., Tony Stewart became the 37th consecutive Winston Cup season champion to rely on Moog® chassis parts. Moog chassis parts are manufactured and marketed by Federal- Mogul Corporation.
Stewart's 18th-place finish in Sunday's season-ending race put him over the top in just his third year of Winston Cup competition. The 31-year-old driver of the Joe Gibbs Racing-owned #20 Pontiac posted three wins and 15 top- five finishes this year, resulting in a 38-point margin over runner-up Mark Martin.
In clinching the points title, Stewart -- one of Winston Cup racing's "young guns" -- joins such NASCAR icons as Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty in having relied on Moog technologies to ensure championship performance.
"Moog's dominance in Winston Cup racing ranks among the most impressive streaks in all of sports," said Michael Proud, director of undercar brand marketing for Federal-Mogul. "NASCAR teams are the ultimate judges of chassis parts, and Moog has delivered the performance and durability needed to win championships over nearly four straight decades of competition."
"The steering precision and responsiveness of Moog M2 Technology is as important to consumers who use their vehicles in everyday driving as it is to NASCAR teams," said Brian Rassin, director of chassis product marketing for Federal-Mogul. "M2 Technology takes our brand to an entirely new level by enhancing the driving experience. That means more business and greater customer satisfaction for shops that rely on this exciting new design."
Developed and tested with NASCAR Winston Cup teams, M2 Technology utilizes durable metal-on-metal construction consisting of a unique heat-treated metal stud with full-ball configuration and a double bearing with an exclusive "gusher" design. The result is smoother operation through the part's full range of motion, producing more precise and responsive steering.
Moog's dominance extends to the automotive repair industry, where the brand's exclusive problem-solving engineering philosophy has led to the development of chassis parts that improve on original equipment technologies and are easier to install. "This same approach powered the development of M2 Technology," Proud explained. "Today's driving demands a much higher level of performance that's simply not available through standard steering and suspension parts. M2 Technology is the only design engineered to meet and exceed this increasingly important benchmark."
