McMurray Phoenix NASCAR Recap

AVONDALE, Ariz. (November 10, 2002) --- Jamie McMurray leaves Phoenix
International Raceway a frustrated man. For the second day in a row,
McMurray was involved in an early race incident that saw his chances of a
solid run disappear. McMurray and the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge team finished
the Checker Auto Parts 500 in the 40th position.

After qualifying 12th on the starting grid, McMurray radioed his crew in the
opening laps that his No. 40 Coors Light machine was "really tight." By lap
22 McMurray was running in 16th place. On lap 25, McMurray's day took a
downhill turn as he made contact with the car of Ken Schrader heading into
turn four.

McMurray's No. 40 machine slapped the outside wall, causing extensive
rear-end damage to the Coors Light Dodge. McMurray would soon head to the
garage to allow the crew to make the needed repairs. After spending several
laps in the garage, McMurray re-entered the race on lap 68 in the 43rd
position.

The remainder of the event would be a game of survival for McMurray as he
tried to gain positions as cars retired from the event. McMurray was
successful in his mission, as he picked up three positions in the finishing
order.

"This has not been a good weekend," McMurray said. "I was involved in early
race accidents in both the Busch and Cup races. This sport can be very
humbling. We've been on a high the past few weeks, but this is all part of
it. You'll have bad days with the good ones. Just hopefully you'll have more
good ones."

"I'm also glad we were able to come in and make the repairs so we could
finish the race. This team is still in the car owner points championship
battle, so at least we were able to gain a few positions on the track."

McMurray and the Coors Light team now set their sights on the season finale
at Homestead Miami Speedway for the running of the Ford 400 next weekend.
