NASCAR Winston Cup Qualifying Notes and Quotes from Dover

JERRY NADEAU (No. 44 Georgia Pacific/Brawny Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We were hoping for a better lap than that, but you take what you can get and go from there. We'll work on race setup now and get ready for Sunday."

JOHN ANDRETTI (No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We had been pretty good in practice. Our first lap was our fastest and then we struggled to get back to it. We went into qualifying and put our heads together and changed some stuff. It was pretty good. The car was better than me. I jumped over the apron going into turn one and messed up the lap. That was unfortunate, but the car was good enough that I could make up time the rest of the way."

KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"That's about a tenth slower than practice. We're not that bad. My car pushed. It skated up the track in practice, and we made a shock adjustment. It helped it a little bit, but it didn't help it enough. Sometimes when you can duplicate what you ran in practice, you're pretty decent. We feel like that's a decent time."

WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"I'm trying to give the proper information to the team to make the car better, but it's pretty hard right now. We're out in left field. We're going to work hard and try to get it right tomorrow for Sunday."

BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"The track was a little slicker than it was in practice Other than that, it's virtually no different. We had the fastest Dodge at least."

CASEY ATWOOD (No. 7 Sirius Satellite Radio Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We slowed down two tenths from practice. It looks like everybody else did, too. Hopefully the Sirius Dodge will end up where we were in practice, about 17th or 18th. Our car tightened up a lot in qualifying. I couldn't get in the gas, so I got up on the straightaways. The track conditions changed and we needed to make some changes on our car. We didn't know the track was going to change that much. We raced here good last time, so we'll be fine."

JIMMY SPENCER (No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"The car just wasn't fast, and we don't know why. We worked on it all day, and we just never could get it any faster."

JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We came a long way today. We were 24th in practice. We made a lot of changes right before qualifying, and it helped us. A lot of people slowed down and we ran exactly what we practiced. We made a lot of gains. The engine guys worked real hard trying to give me the combination I was looking for. They did, and I feel good about it."

KENNY WALLACE (No. 23 Hills Bros Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"It was a handful. I had no idea I was going to be that loose. We tried as hard as we could and we ended up 36th. One of my jobs when I came to Bill Davis Racing was to try to help the 23, 22 and 27 with qualifying. We're going to get together tonight and try to figure out what's going on. Mike (Wallace) went out last and beat me and knocked me down to 36th, but that's OK. I'm happy for him. We're in the race, and that's good."

STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"The guys on the Coors Light Dodge team kept working on it and got it better. It was terrible when practice started, but we saw in practice that the car never slowed down. We've got a good setup for the race. We ran about the same speed in qualifying, but we adjusted because we knew the track was going to get slicker. We ran 23.40s every time we went out in practice. We put on new tires and picked up about two tenths. A lot of guys picked up half a second, but from what I see now, we're going to race good. The tire feels better. I think it's got a little more grip."
