NOTES OF INTEREST:  The BPU 200 will be the second ARCA RE/MAX Series
race at Kansas Speedway since the inaugural event in 2001. At present, a
record 45 drivers from 18 states have filed entries for this year’s
race. 3-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel leads the points
coming to Kansas over young-guns Damon Lusk and Chad Blount who are tied
for 2nd. 22-year-old Blount is also in a tight race for Rookie of the
Year honors currently leading 18-year-old Chase Montgomery by 10 and
16-year-old Shelby Howard by 16. Although Kimmel only holds a 75-point
margin in the national championship points battle, the Jeffersonville,
Indiana driver has dominated the lap-leader category in ’02 having led
341 laps in 5 events. Andy Belmont (5th in points) is next in line with
89 laps-led in 2 races. Kimmel recently posted a career-best 26th place
NASCAR Winston Cup finish in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600. Kimmel and El Cajon
CA driver Austin Cameron are competing in both the BPU 200 as well as
the same-day Winston West Kansasspeedway.com 150. At present, there are
3 female drivers entered: Kansas City KS driver Jennifer Jo Cobb,
Carroll IA driver Karla Lampe and Pryor OK sprint car driver Christi
Passmore. Tim Steele, the only other ARCA RE/MAX Series champion
entered, is the all-time superspeedway winner with 24 victories as well
as the all-time superspeedway lap-leader with 2,308 laps-led in 49
races. Other notable entrants include 3rd-generation driver and
defending race winner Jason Jarrett, former NFL football head coach
Jerry Glanville, Jason Rudd (nephew of Ricky Rudd), 2nd/3rd generation
drivers Todd Bowsher (son of 3-time champ Jack Bowsher), Billy Venturini
(son of 2-time champ Bill Venturini) and veterans Mark Gibson, Ron Cox,
Chuck Weber, Brad Smith, Mike Buckley, Darrell Basham, Kansas City MO
driver Frog Hall and Norm Benning to name a few.
