Montgomery Motorsports Has Rough Start to Weekend

SPARTA, KY (May 10, 2002) - The Montgomery Motorsports team will have to run their backup car for Saturday's Channel 5-155 at the Kentucky Speedway.

Team driver, Chase Montgomery had an unfortunate incident in the #27 Montgomery Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the morning practice.

"We went out to scuff tires for qualifying and I just got loose," Montgomery said. "It's too bad, because we had a great car."

The car got loose in the middle of turns 3 and 4, came around on Montgomery and backed into the wall.

The car suffered severe rear-end damage and was retired for the weekend. That was the same car the team was starting at Lowe's Motor Speedway next weekend.

The team still has a great shot to win the race. Despite the morning's wreck, Montgomery was the fourth fastest car in the field. The car pulled off of the trailer this afternoon finished fifth in Nashville earlier this season.

"We came here with really high hopes," Montgomery said. "The backup car is a good car and we'll just have to go out and see what happens."

The Channel 5-155 will be held at the Kentucky Speedway on Saturday. The race will be broadcast live on Speed Channel and WLWT Channel 5 beginning at 8:00 a.m.
