Round 5 of 15 on the 2002 Indy Racing League

Tony Kanaan and the #17 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Chevrolet G-Force recorded
a fast lap of 222.879 mph during today's rain-shortened second day of
practice for the 86th Indianapolis 500. He reached the 224.324 mph mark
during Sunday's opening day of practice. Today's session was delayed almost
six hours due to rain, limiting drivers to only 77 minutes of practice time.
Kanaan turned a total of 25 laps.

His teammate Felipe Giaffone and the #21 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Chevrolet
G-Force had the third-fastest lap of the day at 225.043 mph. It was almost
a full mile per hour faster than his best lap Sunday.

Defending race winner Helio Castroneves was fastest at 226.716 mph today,
followed by Laurent Redon at 226.147 mph. Practice resumes Tuesday at 11
a.m. local time (noon EDT), weather permitting. Thunderstorms are predicted
again for Tuesday. Pole Day qualifying set for Saturday.

TONY KANAAN

"We definitely learned a lot today, even though we didn't go as fast as we
did on Sunday. We headed off in a different direction with our setup than
Felipe and learned that his was the way to go today. I was pushing just a
little too much today, but we will go to work to fix the problem based on
what we learned from Felipe's car. I'm not worried ... yet. It's a long
month. Although this weather is costing us practice time that is very, very
important ... especially for the teams that have never been here before.
But we are in capable hands."
