Entries for Sat- Sams Town 300 and Sunday's UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400
LAS VEGAS – Defending race and NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon headlines a list of 45 drivers who have filed entries for Sunday’s UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“We struggled here the first few times we raced in Las Vegas, but all that changed last year,” said Gordon, who tested at the 1.5-mile superspeedway in late January. “We were able to run a good race and won Winston’s $1 million bonus money. It was really a springboard to the season, and we went on to win the championship.”
Two-time event winner Jeff Burton is among five drivers eligible for the Winston No Bull 5 $1 million bonus. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Bobby Hamilton and Matt Kenseth will join Burton in the hunt for the bonus.
History will be made Sunday at LVMS as Shawna Robinson will bid to become the first woman to ever compete in a NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at LVMS. Robinson did compete in a NASCAR Winston West Series event here last October, but suffered engine failure after running in the top five for much of the race. For the second straight year, Las Vegas resident Kurt Busch will be looking for a win in his hometown.
Sunday’s UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 will start at 12:30 p.m. (Pacific Time) and will be televised live on the FOX Network. The weekend begins with qualifying for both the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 and Sam’s Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race on Friday. The Sam’s Town 300 is Saturday at 1 p.m. In addition, the Pennzoil World of Outlaws will compete for three nights on the half-mile dirt track.

Burton is the only driver ever to sweep both races at LVMS. He turned the trick in 2000. Green and Spencer are former NASCAR Busch Series winners at LVMS.
Former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series winners at Las Vegas Jack Sprague and Greg Biffle, NASCAR Busch Series points leader Jason Keller, former NASCAR champion crew chief Kirk Shelmerdine and ex-NASCAR Winston Cup Series drivers Kevin Lepage and Andy Houston are among the entries.
Three teams have filed entries but haven’t named drivers for next weekend’s race.
