NOTES OF INTEREST: The Food World 300 is the longest ARCA RE/MAX race
on the schedule; and the $256,562 in posted awards for the event is a
record Talladega/ARCA purse. In the 38 races held at Talladega, 16 have
been won from the pole. NASCAR All Pro veteran Tina Gordon has filed her
entry for the Food World 300. The Cedar Bluff AL driver will make her
debut in a Mark Thompson Phoenix Air Ford Thunderbird, the same car that
carried veteran Bob Strait to the winner’s circle at Talladega in 99.
Thompson, of Cartersville GA, is also entered in his own 01 Taurus.
Frank Kimmel, who has never won at Talladega, has already locked up the
01 ARCA RE/MAX Series title. Several 2nd and 3rd generation drivers are
entered including leading ARCA Rookie of the Year candidate Jason
Jarrett, Justin Labonte, Billy Venturini, Chad Blount, Casey Mears and
Todd Bowsher to name a few. The outcome of the Food World 300 will
determine this year’s Bill France Triple Crown winner. The prestigious
award, representative of ARCA’s extremely diverse schedule, is an
amalgamation of points from 3 very diverse tracks – Talladega, the Salem
Speedway short-track and the Springfield IL dirt-mile. Talladega is one
of two venues for the ARCA RE/MAX Series that mandates the use of
carburetor restrictor plates - the other being Daytona Int'l Speedway.
