NHRA FMDRS: Beech Bend serves as unofficial warmup for US Nationals

August 27, 2001BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Competition at Beech Bend Raceway Park served as the unofficial warm-up to the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis, Aug. 29-Sep. 3. 596 cars from 32 states, representing six of NHRA's seven regional divisions participated at this weekend's events.
With weather conditions at Bowling Green traditionally being similar to Indianapolis, many drivers come to Beech Bend Raceway Park to prepare their cars for what conditions may be like next week at the nationals. Winners at Beech Bend have been known to carry their success over to Indianapolis.
"There are so many winners that have won here, that have gone on to win the nationals," said NHRA Heat's Bob Frey.
NHRA HEAT TAPES AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - ESPN's Bob Frey and Bill Stevens, interviewed Federal-Mogul Dragster driver Bobby Martin, Comp driver Brian Browell, and Super Gas driver Lynn Ellison for this upcoming week's airing of NHRA Heat. Browell, a former winner of the Canadian Lottery was asked by Frey for advice, on how to win the estimated 280 million-dollar Powerball jackpot.
Coverage of this weekend's events will be broadcast on NHRA Heat on Thursday, 6:30 PM/EST on ESPN2.
FEDERAL-MOGUL STAGES COMPANY PICNIC
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Beech Bend Park & Raceway served host to over 900 employees and family from Federal-Mogul's Scottsville and Glasgow plants. Employees from both plants treated their families to a day of food and entertainment featuring Federal-Mogul Series Drag racing, while enjoying the rides and campground facility at neighboring Beech Bend Park. The amusement park features rides including waters slides, merry go-round, and a roller coaster.
