Brian Simo Watkins Glen qualifying

Brian Simo of Carlsbad, Calif., will start Sunday's NASCAR Winston Cup race
at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International from the 42nd position, after a
track-worker's miscue cost him a fast qualifying run in the No. 90 Hills Bros
Coffee Ford.

Simo had just started his qualifying lap when a worker erroneously moved onto
the track and waved a yellow flag, indicating the run was to be aborted.
Simo returned to the garage where the crew replaced the car's tires, but did
not have sufficient time to cool the car's engine before re-qualifying.
Simo's resulting time of one minute, 13.785 seconds was 37th-fastest, forcing
the team to take a provisional starting position.
