USAC: Brown, Evans score 1st USAC victories at Bakersfield

Larry Brown of Bakersfield, Calif. and West Evans of Moorpark, Calif. scored their initial USAC feature victories in Saturday night's "doubleheader" racing program at the Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway!

Brown has been competing in the Western WorldCom Midget Car Series since 1991 and Evans has competed in the WorldCom TQ Midget Cars since 1988 but both ended up in victory lane at the 1/3-mile dirt Bakersfield oval.

Brown led all 30 laps to beat Midget Car series point leader Danny Ebberts, fast qualifier Thomas Meseraull, Danny Stratton and Shane Scully, while Evans led all 20 laps of the TQ Midget Car feature to beat series point leader Walt Johnson, Chris Hedge, Chuck West and Ron Ahrendt.

Ebberts leads Alex Harris (sixth at Bakersfield) by only seven points going into the July 31 USAC WorldCom National/Western Midget Car race at Eagle Raceway in Lincoln, Neb., while Johnson leads Steve Lambert (12th at Bakersfield) by 46 points in the TQ standings.
