USAC: McMahan Number 1 at Salt Lake City; Hunt Retakes Point Lead

Bobby McMahan of Rio Linda, Calif. wheeled his American Tool & Mfg./Yak Graphics Bailey Bros./Beast to victory in Saturday night's 40-lap Western Sprint Car feature at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. The victory boosted him to sixth in the new series standings.

McMahan led all 40 laps to beat Tony Hunt, fast qualifier Jim Waters, Ryan Flynn and Dave Fitzgerald to the checkered flag.

Hunt's finish pushed him past Jeff Gardner into the series point lead by six points going into an August 11 race at Carson Tahoe Champion Speedway in Carson City, Nev. Gardner was 12th in the Salt Lake City feature.

Curtis Brown, McMahan, Flynn and Mel Andrus won heat races and Waters took the semi.
