Alex Harris and Walt Johnson will try to protect their respective USAC WorldCom Racing Series point leads this Saturday as the Western Midget Cars and TQ Midget Cars combine for a "doubleheader" program on the 1/3-mile dirt track in Bakersfield, Calif.

Bakersfield Speedway will host 20-lap TQ and 30-lap Midget Car features, with Harris a slim five points ahead of Danny Ebberts in the Midget Car standings and Johnson only 19 ahead of Steve Lambert in the TQs. A total of 72 points are available in each series.

Harris is seeking his initial Western WorldCom Midget Car title, although he won back-to-back TQ Midget Car championships in 1997-1998. Johnson narrowly lost last year's TQ title (by two points) and will try to log his first 2001 victory at Bakersfield. Harris also will be seeking his initial 2001 victory, despite four second-place finishes.
