NHRA: Troy Coughlin out in the first round; Jeg Coughlin exits in second

In the opening round Troy Coughlin took on Jim Yates. The match up put a Chevrolet Cavalier and a Pontiac Grand Am head-to-head. The starting line advantage went to Yates by .015 seconds (.475 to .490). The two cars looked like they were welded at the door as they fought for the win light. Yates took the win light. Troy ran a 6.936 at 199.82 mph.

"When we left the line the car headed to the left. The Jeg's machine was good enough to win this weekend and we will just have to do a better job at the next race in Pomona," commented Troy.

Jeg Coughlin and Kurt Johnson faced off in the first round. The match up looked a lot like a final round pairing. The Jeg's Chevrolet Cavalier left the starting line first (.448 to .527) by .079 seconds. The two Chevy Cavaliers were side-by-side as they battled for the win light. Team Jeg's took the win light on a hole shot by .0522 seconds at the stripe. Jeg ran a 6.934 at 199.76 mph.

"I think that Team Jeg's is back on track and we are all focused on winning. The set up that we are using really complements the hot and tricky track conditions that we have here in the St. Louis area," said Jeg. In the second round Jeg faced Jim Yates, who took out his older brother Troy in the opening round. Lane choice went to Yates when the Chevy Cavalier and Pontiac Grand Am squared off. The reaction time advantage went to Coughlin by .028 seconds (.470 to .498). The win light came on for Yates by .0032 seconds at the stripe. Jeg ran a 6.948 at 199.84 mph.

"We have lost a handful of races by thousandths of a second this year. I am looking forward to having lady luck grace us with her presence," said Jeg.
