US F2000: Dyer signs with AIM Autosport

FAIRFIELD, N.J. --The defending American Continental Championship Champion and Team USA participant, Tom Dyer, has announced he will contest the entire 2001 U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision with AIM Autosport.

Dyer, of San Rafael, California, will drive a new 2001 Van Diemen with the Canadian-based team. AIM returns to the series after a two-year hiatus with a two-car effort. In 1996, AIM finished third in the championship with team owner, Andrew Bordin.

“I am thrilled to be back in the U.S. F2000 series and with a team like AIM Autosport,” said Dyer. “I had the opportunity to work with team principal Ian Willis last year and it was very good. I think we will be very competitive this year. The car package is excellent and I can’t wait to get the season under way. I feel extremely fortunate for this opportunity. My goal is to win races and be in position to win the championship at year’s end.”

“We are very excited to have Tom as part of the team,” said Willis. “We worked a little bit together last season and I believe he has what it takes to win races and be a championship contender. He blends in well with the team and I think we’ll have a great driver combination with Tom and his teammate Paul Dana.”

Dyer will have backing from Cycle Shack Inc., King Dragon Race Apparel, Paladin Associates, and Maxima Oils, while searching for additional sponsors to put together a more complete testing program.

“Right now we are scraping every penny together to pay for the season, but unfortunately that doesn’t leave much for a test program,” said the 24-year old Dyer. “In a series as competitive as U.S. F2000, testing is a must, so I am working hard to find more funding.”

The season begins March 3, 2001, at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The series will use the 2.21-mile road course in support of the Grand-Am Nextel 250.
