NASCAR WCUP: Response from Martinsville Speedway on Earnhardt's death

Facts and figures on Dale Earnhardt’s career at Martinsville Speedway

Six Martinsville Speedway wins:

  • 1980 Old Dominion 500
  • 1985 Old Dominion 500
  • 1987 Virginia 500
  • 1988 Virginia 500
  • 1991 Virginia 500
  • 1995 Old Dominion 500

He finished second six times at Martinsville Speedway, including a second place finish in last fall’s Old Dominion 500. He also had two thirds, three fourths and three fifths for a total of 20 top 5 finishes.

Only Martinsville Speedway pole came in the 1995 Virginia 500 when time trials were rained out and he started first because he was leading the points standings.

First start at Martinsville Speedway came in the Virginia 500 on April 22, 1979. He started 11th, finished 8th and won $3,350. He went on to win the Winston Cup Rookie of the Year title in 1979.
