APAA, ASIA plan China trade mission
THE AUTOMOTIVE Parts & Acces- sories Association (APAA) and the Automotive Service Industry Association (ASIA) are planning to lead a two-week auto parts trade mission to China in June.
Thirty delegates will visit Shanghai, Changchun and Beijing to evaluate joint ventures, technology exchanges, and marketing and sales opportunities.
"China's priority plan for developing its components industry makes the mission especially timely for American OE/aftermarket suppliers," says APAA president Alfred L.Gaspar.
APAA and ASIA were invited to participate by the China National Automo- tive Industry Corporation, which is China's premier automotive group.
"Because China is also intent on developing a competitive automotive supplier industry, this mission creates an opportunity for manufacturers and manufacturers' representatives to meet Chinese factories seeking introduction to the U.S. aftermarket," says ASIA president Gene Gardner.
The trade mission leaves June 13 from San Francisco and returns June 26. The estimated expense per delegate is $4,555. To register for the trip, contact Sherry Shaver, program coordinator for the Citizen Ambassador Program (800) 669-7992, ext. 411; or contact the APAA (301) 654-6664 or ASIA (847) 228-1310.

Car Care Council, ASA test markets certification program
A CERTIFIED VEHICLE inspection program is being test marketed in Ohio by the Car Care Council (CCC) and the Ohio Automotive Service Association.
The service includes a comprehensive evaluation of more than 150 inspection points and is performed by inspection centers selected by a peer committee under the direction of the CCC. Inspection centers will be staffed by ASE master technicians.
"At $99 our certified inspection service is ideal for a private seller or car dealer wanting to certify that a vehicle has had close scrutiny prior to being put up for sale," says CCC president Don Midgley.
The report provides the individual with an inspection sticker, displaying the registration number and is posted on the vehicle's windshield.
The statistics resulting from the inspections will also be used to enhance the statistical base from National Car Care months check lanes.
The certification program will be evaluated for later use by the CCC's board of Governors at its annual spring meeting.
