24 Heures du Mans - 15/16 June 1996 Communique No. 7 Saturday 15th June 1996 -- 21H00/23H00 Problems for the works Porsches
Things began to go wrong in the Porsche camp just after 21h00. No. 25 lost 12 minutes in the pits
when in secondplace as the collision between Stuck and Alliot in the afternoon had damaged one
of flat bottom fixations. At almost the same time the other works car driven by Yannick Dalmas
went off in the sand trap at Mulsanne damaging a brake line. Repairs took time too which had to
be added a stop for a brake purge. Bob Wollek went back out and at 23h00 the no. 25 Porsche
was in fourth place while no 26 had fallen back to tenth.

Porsche's problems allowed the leading McLaren (no. 33 entered by Gulf Racing) up to third
place. There was only a lap between the three leaders. Michele Alboreto in the no 8 Joest car
set a new lap record in 3 mn 49.996 secs. In fifth place was the Courage-Porsche C36 no 5 with
the 2 Bigazzi entered McLarens not far behind. The David Price entries were not front runners
being down in 11th (West) and 13th (Harrods) places.

Like Lammers in the afternoon Fabien Giroix lost time pushing his McLaren into the pits due to
running out of fuel.

There were many brake pad changes both in steel and carbon. The Lister lost time because of 2
consecutive stop and go penalties but still managted to hold on to fifteenth place.

The second Ennea Igol Ferrari F40 retired with a blown engine like it's sistercar. Michel Ferte had
persistent gearbox problems.

Around 23h00 the Konrad Motorsport Porsche hit the railings int he Porsche curves. The driver
had also been troubled with a steering wheel that would not tighten properly.

In GT2 the Roock Racing Porsche No. 79 was still in the lead but was now only a lap ahead of the
no. 82 Larbre Porsche.
