Belterra 300 at The Kentucky Speedway 2001 THE AUTO CHANNEL Congratulates Buddy Lazier as repeat winner of the Belterra Indy 300. Buddy Lazier dueled Robbie Buhl in a classic battle down the stretch, but Lazier held on to repeat as winner of the Indy Racing League Northern Light Series Belterra Casino Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway. The win was an IRL record fourth of the season for Lazier. He is the career wins leader in the series with eight. Polesitter Scott Sharp led the most laps in the race at 105, but finished second, 1.582 seconds behind Lazier. Sam Hornish, Jr. came in third. Best Show of the Show award to Buddy Lazier and the #91 Hemelgarn Racing Team for maintaining excellence over the last few weeks. Four wins in five races... that's consistency, and that wins championships. Kudos to Donnie Beechler, starting shotgun on the field and finishing fifth.
