Car of the Week September 25, 2000

2001 Volvo V70 2001 Volvo V70 -- It’s the ultimate "mommy car." Safe, practical, and now very stylish, Volvo's wagons have provided fond childhood memories for much of the world's population. Although, the all-new 2001 wagon is once again curvy and now sporty too. 2001 Volvo V70 Gone are the "boxes" which have been a distinctive part of Volvo styling since the 1960’s. With room for seven people, or five people and two dogs, or four adults and a full load of stuff, or two adults and room to sleep, the V70 is roomier than most mid-sized SUV’s and as versatile and safe as an automobile can come. Based on the same platform as the S80, the V70 is loaded with safety and convenience features, and is powered by a beefy high-pressure turbocharged 2.3-liter twincam inline five-cylinder engine to pump out 247 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 243 lb.-ft of torque between 2400 and 5200 rpm. 2001 Volvo V70
