The 67th Annual Geneva Car Show - 1997

by Paul Negyesi

Saab

"The Saab 90 was an aeroplane. The Saab 91 as an aeroplane. The Saab 92 was - a car!" - this is how Saab's informative booklet starts. Saab celebrated the 50th anniversary of car-making. The first "Ursaab" prototype 92001 was shipped from the Saab museum to help the celebration.
Also pictures were shown about the new 9-5.
This car has to generate sales because Saab is in trouble. A new man was sent recently from General Motors to cut costs and to do something with the once prestigious Swedish carmakers. A sportier Saab 900 is on the cards, but plans for a smaller Saab have been shelved.

Volvo

"When the saints marchin' in" - once the Volvo P1800 coupé appeared in the movie The Saint, now the new C70 Coupe is also going to be on the big screen!

A new line of sporting models, known as the R-models were introduced. They're the S70R and the V70R and the AWD 4-wheel-drived V70R estate.
