Skyline started in 1951 in Elkhart, Indiana, as a small operation building house trailers, which evolved into today’s manufactured housing. In 1960, the company opened its first travel trailer plant. During its 50-plus years of operation, Skyline has built more than 870,000 homes and 460,000 RVs, most of them travel trailers. Sales over the years total more than $15 billion. Skyline is a publicly traded company, listed as SKY on the New York Stock Exchange.

Skyline corporate headquarters is still in Elkhart, Indiana. Products are built by 21 operating divisions located in 11 states across the country. Of the 21 divisions, 16 produce housing and five produce RVs – travel trailers, fifth-wheel trailers and ramp trailers (SURV or toy haulers). The RV manufacturing plants are located in Hemet, California; McMinnville, Oregon; Mansfield, Texas; and Elkhart, Indiana. Because the products are built regionally, not all models are available in all areas. The company tries to sell models that are made in each region, whenever possible. Some models have different names. For example, the Rampage, Freestyle and Trailrider SURV brands share many of the same floorplans and model codes, but may differ in graphics and available upholstery.
