Las Vegas, NV-February 19, 2007-The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute (AFVi) hosts the annual Alternative Fuels & Vehicles National Conference + Expo in Anaheim, California April 1-4, 2007. An estimated 1500 people will attend the nation's largest fuel and technology neutral conference. Sixty sessions feature many of the leading decision-makers in alternative fuels and technologies, representing truck manufacturers, fuel suppliers, government agencies and parts manufacturers. Session topics include legislation, climate change, plug-in hybrids, ports, EPA engine standards, biofuels updates, electric drive advances, and workshops on airports, schools, transit, delivery, and refuse. The AFVi is pleased to announce the confirmed keynote speakers for the 13th national conference.

Ed Begley, Jr., Actor/Environmental Activist

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. said of Ed Begley, Jr., "Ed has a greater sense of social obligation than anyone I know. He's like a West Coast cadet who gets up every morning and says 'reporting for duty'". He will report for duty for several appearances, courtesy of Phoenix MotorCars which is an early leader in the mass production of zero emission, full-function, green electric trucks and SUVs for commercial fleet use.

California's former energy czar rose to national prominence as the head of the Tennessee Valley Authority. He's been an advisor to several governors, Congress, and former president Jimmy Carter. His important work with the Port of Los Angeles has lead to groundbreaking strategies to find solutions for cleaning up the nation's largest port.

Jim Kenzie, Chief Auto Reviewer, Toronto Star

Jim Kenzie, an engineering graduate, has been an automotive journalist for more than twenty-five years. He's a commentator, freelance writer and broadcaster for many outlets throughout the world. His enthusiasm isn't confined just to writing about it. Kenzie holds an International Class-B racing license and has been a road-racer for thirty years.

Mike Marshall, Director of Automotive Emerging Technologies, JD Power and Associates

Among consumers who expect to acquire a new vehicle within the next two years, 57 percent indicate that they are considering a hybrid, 49% are looking at flex-fuel vehicles and 12% will check out diesel. Those findings from the JD Power 2006 Alternative Powertrain Study are the types of forecasting conference attendees will hear from JD Power's Mike Marshall.

Pete McCloskey, Educator and Politician

Pete McCloskey is best known as a fifteen-year republican veteran of the U.S. Congress, representing California. He served in both the Marine Corps and the Navy, has a law degree from Stanford, and has taught at both Stanford and Santa Clara Universities. Today, McCloskey applies his environmental scholarship and passion to speaking out about the global environment and the role of the federal government in reversing our nation's "backsliding."

Curt Pringle, Mayor of Anaheim, California

Curt Pringle has served as Mayor of Anaheim since he was elected in November of 2002. He is sought out at the national, regional and local level to speak on policy issues such as affordable and workforce housing, transportation, planning and development, and local government finance reform. Mayor Pringle previously served with distinction in the California State Assembly.

Loretta Sanchez, U.S. House of Representatives

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, and is now serving her fifth term. She currently represents the 47th Congressional District of California. Her particular emphases for her district include transportation, education, environment, and crime reduction projects.

Terry Tamminen, Author, Lecturer, and Strategist on Energy and the Environment

Terry Tamminen has spent the past several years working for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, first as the head of the California Environmental Protection Agency and then as a Cabinet Secretary. Today, he serves as a Special Advisor to California's Governor, on energy and environmental policy. His new book, Lives Per Gallon, is a candid chronicle of the costs to society that directly correlate to dependence on fossil fuels.

James Woolsey, Foreign Policy Specialist

James Woolsey is a trustee at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Advisor of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, Founding Member of the Set America Free Coalition, and Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton for Global Strategic Security. His previous government experience includes service as Director of Central Intelligence and Under Secretary of the Navy. In recent years he has become an outspoken advocate for alternative fuels and renewable energy as tools to wean us off of our addiction to fossil fuels.
