07/10/96
According to a Reuters report an Italian Prosecutor has charged Formula One team owner, Frank Williams and his designer, Patrick Head with manslaughter in the racing death of Ayrton Senna at San Marino two years ago. The manslaughter charge carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. Maurizio Passarini contends that the steering column on Senna's Williams had been modified and broke while the world champion was negotiating a corner in the Italian G.P. He claims an engineering professor at Bologna University examined the wrecked car and found welds on the steering unit. So far no word from the Williams camp.
